What quarantine means- Quarantine is a medical term for the act of keeping an object in enforced isolation for a period of time to limit or prevent the spread of disease or infection.
Main reason as stated is to reduce the risk of illnesses and diseases from passing to the current rats you own from the new rats, regardless of where they are coming from. Now, besides the obvious reason for this post I want to add something due to a horrid HORRID problem I had tonight when taking back rats. Now I will disclose why I was getting them back, the old owner got a new job which required travel and so they thought it best for them to have a new home. Okay, so what am I adding? Well when I take back rats, I ask for any and all items which the rats used before I get them. This saves me money, helps reduce stress and convenient for the new owners to get all items free with the new adoption. But after tonight I would rather spend the money then have any items from people any more!! I was putting together the cage which the returned rats came with, and a ROACH came out of the cage! YES!! A roach! I killed it right away and literally ran the items outside to my back yard, were I then dumped a bucket of water on it all. I vacuumed and swept my house, checked the floors and proceeded to panic slightly at the thought of this!
I'm still feeling the need to itch and bleach my body! I am so past being angry at the last owner for not A; Cleaning the cage B: Warning me about the issue and C: Giving me fabrics and items along with food for them! Any of this can carry these bugs and they are so hard to kill! I have far to many animals and to many places for them to breed and hide, plus it's a large 2 story home! So, I stress to all people getting rats back or second hand to clean and quarantine items as well as rats!
