Our Husbandry
This page is going to explain and show my housing, from the smallest to the largest additions.
As explained in our tab of Frequently Asked Questions, I use a few different housing or cages. Of course I use the large double critter nations, I Have 2 one for the females and one for males.
My one double critter nation houses my 9 girls, from my breeders to pets and retired breeders. I have my standard and Dwarf rats held in this cage, I are amazingly lucky to be able to house all my female rats in the same cage with no issues! My males are also held in a double critter nation, I also have 9 boys which are breeders, pets and retired breeders.
However I often have Single cages for medical preps, also have a few double level cages for when the babies come of age for adoption, or when I have someone who needs a nightly time out.
Photo's are always taken just after cleaning and will be updated as much as possible.

Please Note: I have now switched back to the use of Aspen bedding vs Fleece, I will be looking into using Cotton (double Lined) to help with urine smell and absorption.

Please note most paper is safe for rats to use.
"Shredded Paper. Shredded paper is both warm and comfortable for your rats and economical for you. You can shred your unwanted letters and bills or alternatively local schools and offices may be willing to give you sacks of shredded paper. Ensure that all the staples and paper clips are removed though. It has been advised in the past to avoid printed paper, however by law, inks used in printing have to be child safe so are pet safe too. Newspapers are safe but will stain pale coloured rats. It is not recommended to use shredded glossy paper, such as magazines." |
