Welcome to Jazzed Up Rattery!©

We are located in Toronto, Ontario Canada.
My goal is to breed genetically strong rats. I strive to pick the parents for their genetic strength which is a reference to health, and I also strongly consider temperament. I breed with the hope to improve the genetic strength of my rats which in turn improves the health and longevity, but I also breed for the love of raising rats and the pleasure of finding them joy filled homes. This all started off as a hobby and now that I have learned much more then expected I am expanding my rattery slowly. I breed for the goal of providing healthy rats best fit for owners of all experiences.
Please keep in mind that adopting from me means you are getting pet quality rats, not breeding quality. As a breeder I keep the most suitable rats for breeding and the ones for adoption are for great quality pets. What I am doing is a form of culling called Soft culling, which means I offer the rats a better home so they would not be a life wasted. Just because they are not what I'm looking for in my breeding plans does not mean they wont be great pet rats for you as my clients.
All of my rat babies as well as young adults are friendly, outgoing and curious. They also have been handled since birth. I, as well as our customers, find our rats to be very different from pet store rats. They are much more friendly than most pet stores or feeders and have far better in health. The temperament of my rats differ from other rodents such as: rabbits, guinea pigs, mice or hamsters. They refrain from biting and are not at all skittish.
The babies, as well as the young adults, will take treats from our hands. They do this because they are comfortable around humans and understand the trust. Most rats may defecate or urinate while being held, however, overlooking very rare accidents, our babies do not do so, as we have experienced with ourselves and others. This is because they are comfortable with and around most people (unless startled due to sudden or hard handling). My rats are also litter trained once they are fully weaned, this helps with over all cleanliness of both the rats and their cage. Plus, lets not forget the floors too!
My babies have been exposed to loud noise like baking, vacuums etc. and are normally not startled by it. My rats very much enjoy coming out for play time or just to hang out and spend some quality time with people. Being handled is never an issue with them as they will happily sit calmly in your hand, pocket or even hood. They are great pets for children over the age of 6 (or with close adult supervision) and would also make a great addition to the perfect enthusiasts home.
My rats are housed in adequate caging according to their age and gender, which often means larger cages (Double critter nations) for adults and smaller brand cages for the young and nursing rat families. Each cage holds plenty of toys for enrichment so that they may help to keep both their minds and bodies active. The total occupied cage count is 2 and each have many decorations such as: chews, hammocks, ramps, baskets, tubes, fabric perches and much more! All of my rats, including my personal pets, are fed high quality Home-made rat food as well as Blue Buffalo. In conjunction with this rat food I feed them human grade Fruit and Veggies, we also often use Harlan Teklad or Mazuri for our Lab block base.
My babies are upper respiratory free when they leave. Sadly, all pet rats are born with mycoplasma which is a bacteria that lives in the lungs and is contracted from the mother upon birth, this causes upper respiratory infections. All rats, no matter what age, can and will get flare ups a few times throughout their lives. This is nothing to worry about as long as it is kept under control. Nonetheless, my babies will come with a 7 day guarantee on health, sex and age. If for any reason you should be unhappy with your rat you are more then welcome to switch it with another if there are any left.
I have a long line of different rat genetics on location as I work with many a few different colours in a number of varieties. Each family's pedigree is available with your adoption upon request. Pedigrees are a great way to see if any health issues are passed down from the original lines and ensure that any and all information is put into each rat's individual file. I would like all rats to go in pairs. This is proven helpful in the rats behaviour and mental health. Rats are very social animals and dislike isolation, so having a cage buddy will always ensure that they will be happy and stimulated. Each pair will not only come with birth card but they will also come with a pedigree, health information, test information and much more upon request.
I have started some of my lines a little over 3-4 year's ago. Until this past year I was not planning on breeding show standard rats, however I strive for the best outcome for the standards I work with. I offer my rats for companionship and never except anything more of them.
We do Not breed hairless!
